Contact
We welcome questions, ideas, and offers of help from everyone who cares about Tug Lake. The best way to reach the District is by email. Messages are read by the Board of Commissioners.
Reach the District
LGMP is a consultant to the District, not District staff.
Speak at a Meeting
Every meeting of the Board of Commissioners is open to the public and includes a time for public comment. Meeting dates, places, and agendas are posted on the Meetings and Records page.
The Annual Meeting of Electors and Property Owners is held each year on the last Saturday in August. There, electors and property owners vote on the District's budget and tax levy and elect commissioners.
Get Involved
Tug Lake depends on volunteers. The District is organizing its volunteer work into six teams, each tied to a goal in the draft Lake Management Plan. The Board of Commissioners is discussing the six teams as it reviews the draft Lake Management Plan. Members will be named later, after the resident survey tells us who would like to help.
You do not need special training to join a team. Some tasks take a few hours a year. Others take a few hours each month in summer.
The Six Teams
- Water Science Team. Volunteers sample the lake, take water clarity readings, and help put the monitoring buoy in each spring and take it out each fall. At the end of each season, the team reports to the Board on what the data showed. Volunteers who train with the state's Citizen Lake Monitoring Network are part of this team. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources trains and supports those monitors.
- Lake Protection Team. Volunteers watch assigned sections of shoreline for invasive plants and animals, help with boat inspections at the landing on busy weekends, and hand out a simple card on invasive species and watercraft safety. This team educates. It does not enforce rules.
- Shoreland, Habitat, and Fisheries Team. Volunteers walk the shoreline to note where it is natural and where it needs help, share information with neighbors about simple shoreline projects, and gather what is known about the lake's fish. Each year the team looks for a few landowners who would like to try a project on their own property.
- Communications and Outreach Team. Volunteers help with the newsletter, the website, and photography, and welcome new property owners to the lake.
- Management Plan and Grant Team. This team already exists. Members help prepare grant applications and track how the Lake Management Plan is being carried out.
- Social Team. This team already exists. Members organize the annual picnic and welcome people at the Annual Meeting.
How the Teams Work
Teams recommend, and the Board decides. Teams do not spend District money or speak for the District on their own. Every decision is made by the Board at a public meeting.
